Our adventure continues:

3. May - Tuesday:

Today is a very rare pleasure it was for us all - it is fun to evaluate because the seats can not go in your daily life - and that was the case today - including our Japanese visitors will not be able to have experience, unless it is specially organized. Mika Ogawa note of the international department of the CityHall, visiting for a long time - and has prepared for us in the Zen Buddhist temple - especially when women are not received, and second, when the public is not invited - but we were treated to a very privileged . By taxi - we went to the oldest Zen Buddhist temple in Japan - and we were greeted by Byakuhou Hosokawa, welcoming the Zen master - when he was in his robe, the Zen-Japanese-style garden at the door and walls of the Community. (6-1 Gokusho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City812-0037 Japan).

The Master was soon - as it should be Zen masters - and have had the wish in-the-moment calm, the Zen master should have - I liked him immediately - and I felt like standing next to his presence. There were so many questions I wanted to ask you - like to hear someone on the elbow of a master - and not for the issue at this time. We left, and under a stone path - in a traditional Japanese sliding door buildings - with the meditation cushion for us all. ThisSaikouji was the Temple. I decided on a cushion in a corner - and Monaco, Genmyou Iso, sitting in a lotus position, leading to me - in a ceremony meditation. He knew that the Americans are back in mediation would be very difficult - and broke up the order - but I fall deeply in mediation and was grateful for the opportunity to have disappeared for twenty minutes - and never mind that the rest of you were writhing . Coming out of meditation - I felt a stinging blow on my shoulder, and then click athe other shoulder - with a sort of long, flexible sticks - and the monks had hit my back. He explained that was part of the process - not just complain, but to encourage the student in the process of enlightenment. If you are asked - Anthony, Harry, Monica, Julia, and Dr. Mika Funakoshi - all accepted the beatings - as if Dash away the car fool.

As I said - that was a unique experience that we are blessed with - and we were then taken through a gate andShoufuku-ji - wooden floors in the corridors of the "Star Gathering Room" - the one room, they have no right of monks in training, to give - it's just the master. Here Sokyo Shimura (a beautiful Japanese woman in kimono Spring Green) - was introduced, the traditional tea ceremony - and we charge. Byakuhou Hosokama, the Zen master SA formally invited to the bottom of the front of the square room - and each of us, through space. They literally told us to sit, as the sweetJapanese Sweets were presented - three cups individually decorated cakes were made - and everyone has voted, and put the bowl say (something like "Sorry for the host first") in a sentence to our neighbor. I opted for a cake that looked like a green leaf - and knew sweet bean paste, which I ate with chopsticks from the paper. Young women in kimono came to prepare the tea - and the Zen master said that green tea is grown and the best from the Temple. Each of us was served the tea -- and we turned the cup in the traditional style of the exhibition design of the cup to the other - and to drink tea spiced. Then he bowed to the ceramic cups to admire the grace -.

Zen masters enjoyed ourselves - and that was our luck - because we went through the halls certified wood floors - and the national archives of special treasury - where we saw a big hand, pieces of wood carved by l ' Emperor of China, this time as first Zen temple> Japan. There were books and statues carved - and an artifact, "said the teacher was a small piece of bone of the Buddha. In the middle of the third room was a large bell that hung at once in the temple garden - and is one 1000 years of Korean old bell - which is a big piece of wood line - and we enjoyed playing. The gardens of the temple have been maintained with precision - the stones into finely-tuned lines and circles - and the trees again Japanese style, a form. Wewanted in quiet moments linger in the garden, nature, beauty, order - the history, philosophy, the spirit of the moment - and the Zen master pointed to the gate until it disappeared into the distance.

We were treated to lunch is just around the corner and down a side street - to Murata Restaurant - 291-0894 and handmade soba noodles and tempura. Dr. Funakoshi and I sat at the bar - and the other SA with Mika on the table. We have pasta and French fries, soy sauce firstDraft of the soba dough - and appreciated the warm tempura - all good. We talked about education, Dr. Funakoshi in the United States - and how many of our guests have had some American education.

Today is the beginning of Dontaku Festival in Fukuoka - and the whole town for the festival, which lasts two days - the gathering of 30,000 participants and two million people live. The streets are full of festivities, as we leave the restaurant - and head to the parade route to watch the parade children and adults tooThis colorful event. Which one day - and Julia and Monica are new host families again this evening. E 'to thank for a lot to do after this trip.

This article is a series - so read on - and for many days to follow in our wonderful adventure!
